These donations will be used to accomplish their main objectives:
· Control and protection of the sanitation and quality of sea and drinking water in coordination with the Health Ministry and AYA (Main requisite to obtain the Environmental Blue Flag)
· Constant cleaning of beaches and streets
· Coordination, design, elaboration, placement and maintenance of signs at major touristic traffic points (25 km/hr campaign and primary access streets to the beach)
· Environmental education with the help of FUNDACABO through seminars given at local schools.
The roots of the Environmental Committee were planted 10 years ago. Today, the committee is associated with FUNDACABO, a foundation of the affiliates of Cabo Blanco National Park and the Municipality of Cobano. These entities have combined to create a stronghold of environmental conservation for the areas of Malpais, Playa Carmen, Santa Teresa, Hermosa and Manzanillo. The environmental committee´s primary objective is the environmental sustainability of the area.
The Recycling Fair had different stands, including the ones from the Ministry of Health with their campaign against Dengue Fever, the Touristic Police, soon to be part of the community, the Municipality of Cobano, with their recycling project, the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism with their Environmental Campaign “No seas un Jacinto” as well as vendors with natural, organic and recycled products.
Also, there were fun activities for children and families with street performers and clowns and a cycling race organized by the Chamber of Tourism.
